The Van Vleet Lumber Company was approximately where the Teevin Brothers is located today (on the south side of the Columbia River, east of the Lewis and Clark Bridge). The mill, bought by George R. Van Vleet in 1938, operated successfully for many years. It was destroyed by a fire on August 21, 1955. It was rebuilt by Thomas N. Melin as the Rainier Manufacturing Company. He later sold it to Crown-Zellerbach in 1972. It was shut down in 1980 and demolished shortly after.
